First Words at Last Rites….
If ordered to stop and think, opposition to the edict would emerge quickly. There’d be protests, fist-shaking, social media barrages and other assorted demonstrations, like lines drawn in sand.
“You can’t make us stop and think,” some would growl. Such angst might remind many of violinists playing while Rome burned to the ground.
The growing gulf between thinkers and non-thinkers must instead become an ocean of growing understanding on important top ...
Hot Air
If you go to the Texas Parks & Wildlife Outdoor Annual website, or log onto the mobile app, to try to find the state regs for hunting with air guns, you’ll probably find a note that says the rules are still being developed. That will change pretty soon, since the TPW Commission approved some proposed changes on 23 August.
Heroes Aren't Always Universally Loved
Last weekend, as I was in Fredericksburg having a night out with friends, I got the news alert on my phone - Senator John McCain of Arizona had finally succumbed to the cancer he had been battling.
I've always been a fan of the Senator. While he and I might not have agreed politically on many items, I admired him for his dedication to his country and to his constituency, as well as for his independent streak, which he exhibited on many occasions.

Blessings
I wonder why, when a person has been blessed, there are those who feel entitled to thwart, slander, and cast aspersions on the recipient-of-choice made by Divine Providence?
I receive with a grateful heart, the good will and blessings which continue to come my way. May your life also be blessed!

Original Cake Pan Cake
courtesy:King Arthur Flour
This World War II vintage cake – it is egg and dairy free, reflecting the rationing of those times – is dark, moist and delicious. King Arthur claims that, over the years, it has been one of their most requested recipes. And, while the original recipe called for “stirring it all together in the pan,” I’ve found that I wind up slopping a lot of it out, and have gone to using a nice, deep bowl.
The Library Book Club had a fun discussion of their August selection yesterday, and for September we’ll be reading Code Girls: The Untold Story of the American Code Breakers of World War II by Liza Mundy. Everyone is welcome, and it doesn’t cost a thing to join, so why not join us for this great read?

Apocalypse sooner or later
If you, like many Americans, have a brain, then you’re definitely at risk of being attacked by zombies, when the Zombie Apocalypse starts. And that could happen any day now, as far as you know. Laugh now if you want, but you won’t be laughing when you’re holed up in an abandoned prison in Georgia with Rick and Daryl.
If you, like many Americans, believe zombies aren’t real, then you definitely haven’t been getting the emails I have.
Happy Labor Day. It is the official end of summer. When you retire, holidays are not so important. We have holidays every day.
Husband John is scheduled to come home from the nursing home this week. We are both ready. I am weary of my almost daily trip to Kerrville. As I write this Sunday, I am positive that God is watching over me on each and every trip.
Diapers and Other Changes…
Diapers haven’t been discussed often at our house for several decades. In fact, even when they were budgeted items, not much was said about them. Actually, most young parents in the 1970s opted for fabric diapers. Most of our discussions centered on whether we could afford a home diaper delivery service for successive months.
To avoid misunderstanding, I should explain that such services meant that fresh diapers would be delivered as scheduled several times ...
Flowers.
Something special about them.
Fresh flowers, that is.
Also called cut flowers.
Flower bouquet.
Flower arrangement.
Flower petals.
Or a single flower.
Like one red rose.
Symbol of love.
Buy flowers.
Bring flowers.
Give flowers.
Send flowers.
No matter how you do it—
Say it with flowers.
The Petal Patch can help with that.
Located inside Mason Building Supply.
