Defeat the Glove
People often send me texts and emails and ask me questions. Like ‘Where do you come up with your stories?’ and ‘What’s the average airspeed of an unladen swallow?’ and ‘What’s the next adventure you have planned?’ and ‘Why don’t you grow up?’ Fun questions.
Generally, I try to answer these questions truthfully, or as truthfully as seems necessary at the time.
I’m looking forward to Saturday, Old Yeller Day! Last year we had a great turnout, and this year could be even better. When you’re out and about for all the other happenings going on, carve out some time to be at the Courthouse lawn and for the free matinee, Where the Red Fern Grows, sponsored by the library at the Odeon.
“Boss” Lion Marty Bentson gaveled to order the weekly meeting of the Mason Lions Club on September 18. Boss Marty announced that Blue Ribbon Service Day would be in Mason on October 31, All Hallows Eve. Blue Ribbon Service Day is a splendid tradition of Mason High School students who provide brains and brawn for projects to help needy Mason citizens.
The Lion’s Club had two guests, Clint Lane and Ethan Powell, seniors from Mason High School.

Old-Fashioned Fudge Sauce
Courtesy Liz Barnes (one of my twisted sisters)
My sister, Liz, lives and works in Kansas City (bless her heart!). She entertains her staff of teachers on a fairly regular basis, and recently used this sauce as an ice cream topping at one of their get-togethers. She shared the recipe with me, I want to share it with you, since it’s right down The Practical Baker’s alley: quick, easy and delicious!

There are many things that I love about moving into a new congregation. I get to meet new pastors, community leaders, parades, the culture, try new restaurants, and hear wonderful stories of how God is working in the lives of his servants.
It is interesting to me how many BBQ’s, and Fish Fry’s there are here.
If you had told me 10 years ago that I would open a wine shop that would only sell Texas wines, I would have said you were crazy. I couldn’t begin to believe that there were enough GOOD Texas wines to generate sales to keep a store open longer than a week.

Learning Addictive Behavior...
On Monday, at the Mason High School regular Monday assembly, there was a special presentation. It only had one topic, and it was one that is probably long overdue for discussion. Vaping.
In case you're unclear on just what vaping is, it is e-cigarettes, electronic versions of smoking that is more socially acceptable than actual tobacco.
It’s been 2 years since you were taken from this earth. I never knew a part of my heart would stop beating.
My son, Jerrad W. Trevino, Sr. was killed in Mason, Texas.
On a Sunday afternoon, September 18, 2016, driver Patricia Rougeau McDaniel, and passenger John JC Copeland drove through the winding roads from Mason Square Apartments to a nearby store.
Quick Bread, Buns or Pizza Crust
recipe origin unknown
This recipe floated into my inbox a few years ago, sent to me by a local reader of the column. She did not know where she had gotten it, but thinks it came from her grandmother “back in the old country.” All I do know is that it is a good recipe and is just as versatile as the title implies so I’m certain you and your family will find a few good uses for it.

2 ½ cups warm water
