I love this time of year! The weather is warmer, the days are longer, and everyone seems too cheerier with winter being over. Spending time with friends and family at the river or lake, outdoor cook outs, these activities I really look forward to and they bring back a lot of good memories.
Something else that brings back fond memories this time of year is when I see Agarita bushes loaded with Agarita berries.
That great old American tradition of a testimonial dinner has given way to "roasts." When You want to honor someone nowadays you still gather a group of friends, but instead of speaking lofty words of praise, they pile heaps of humorous ridicule upon the featured guest.
Done in a warm and loving spirit, these can be occasions of great fun for all involved.
For example, the following excerpts from a pastor's retirement party.

April is full of surprises, one day we are running the cooler, and in a few days a cold front is dipping into our region and we are back with the heater.
What does this mean for the new plants in the garden? Plants at 39 degrees can feel the chill and will need a cover to be safe.
After reporting about goat yoga a while back I’ve be deluged with messages from readers (3) asking about other strange goat news. Personally, I thought doing yoga with baby goats walking around on your body was strange enough. Actually I thought doing yoga was strange enough. But there you go.
As it turns out there’s plenty of goat news to choose from, even if you don’t include the Clay Henry Dynasty, which is a series of actual goats that have been the actual mayors of Lajitas, Texas ...
Last week, portions of Mason and surrounding counties experienced a massive hailstorm. Our Double Helix Ranch was right in the bullseye of this storm, and we were pummeled for 20 minutes with 2- to 3-inch hailstones that caused considerable damage. All our trees had been leafing out and were green before the storm, but they were stripped bare by the hailstones.
The City Commission met on Monday night. One quick item on the agenda was moving the May meeting from the 3rd Monday to the 2nd Monday of the month, making the next meeting fall on May 10th at 5:30PM. On Monday’s meeting, the City Commission also ...
I wish I could erase the terms “deer proof” or “deer resistant” from the English language. It is just more complicated than those terms indicate. Animals have things they really like to eat, things they will eat if available, things they only eat when desperate, and then some things they almost never eat.
For white-tailed deer what they eat is determined by what is available and what is not available.

Things have been a little crazy, lately so I was looking for something I could, just throw together and quickly clean up. This is an easy recipe that you basically dump, bake, and serve. This recipe takes minimal time, but it is a definite crowd pleaser. It’s great for after work of on weekends.
Fear is a universal, eternal emotion. All humans experience it. Just as the scared disciples on the stormy Biblical boat prayed, “Wake up, Jesus! Calm the storm. Calm our fear,” so I make the same plea about the inner storms in my life. And I get the same response the disciples did, two questions.
