My experience with gardening, this year, has been a learning curve. I am following the growing schedule and watching weather and temperatures, but I am behind by at least 3 weeks. I have finallygotten to a "normal" garden season. Notwithstanding the potential of more heat and cool cycles. We are learning to meet each day on its own merit.
We went driving in search of bluebonnets, and found a few patches around but the roadsides are not really pretty this year. The drought is messing with our spring blessing of flowers. Hopefully the weatherman is telling the truth when he predicts rain this week. Class Meetings continue at the Art Methodist Church.
by Will McCann On April 6 the Mason Lions Club met at Nachos for their weekly meeting. More members are receiving their shots and attendance continues to climb. Any ladies or gentlemen who are interested in joining the Mason Lions Club and serving the Mason community need only ask any Mason Lion! Our meeting was efficient and productive.
Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Randy Johnson enjoyed a stellar Hall of Fame baseball career. He won the Cy Young Award five times, made ten All-Star teams, and was named Most Valuable Player of the 2001 World Series, when the Diamondbacks whipped the Yankees to clinch the pennant. Which is all fine and good, but what he’s most remembered for is a monumental fluke of a pitch in 2001 during a Cactus League game between Arizona and the San Francisco Giants.
Spring is here, and so are the snakes
As the weather warms, trees leaf out, and wildflowers burst forth on the landscape, many of us are eager to go out and enjoy the spring weather. Snakes are becoming active as well, and that fact upsets many people. Here I will do my best to suggest that you relax a bit about snakes, and learn to watch and enjoy them.

The Natural Food Web: All Things Are Interconnected
A while back I was giving a talk to a group of people about the condition of our Hill Country habitat when a woman, obviously peeved about my suggesting the overabundant population of deer was damaging the habitat and needed to be reduced, blurted out, “Well, you just like plants more than animals.” My initial thought was that it was just a reflex response to my suggestion that some of her beloved deer should be shot. On further reflection, I think that at least part of her response was ...
Beef and Vegetable Stuffed Peppers
With spring showers bring April flowers (and vegetables). I don’t know about you, but I am ready for some warm weather. I hope the freezes haven’t gotten all of the flowers and vegetables. This dish is a delectable mixture of beef and vegetables. I am always looking for new ground beef recipes and this one was not a disappointment.
Orange Stir-’n-Drop Cookies - Courtesy: thedailymeal.com
These are great cookies that are very fresh tasting and rather light in texture and are sure to become a regular in your house. They're also quite easy to make, so even those of you who might be “baking challenged” can tackle this recipe and come out as a winner. Ingredients: 2 large eggs at room temperature 2/3 cup vegetable oil 1 tablespoon vanilla extract 1 teaspoon grated orange zest ¾ cup sugar 2 cups all-purpose flour 2 teaspoons baking powder ½ teaspoon salt O ...
Exits and Entrances
The southeast side of the shed provided shelter from the cool northwest wind. The early morning sun reflected off the tin siding warming our backs as we leaned against it waiting for the other shearers to arrive. Ernest and I were engaged in our semi-annual conversation, catching up on what had happened in each other's lives since the last shearing.
