It looked good, it smelled good. I could hardly wait to see if it tasted good, too.
The waitress kept bringing the tantalizing plates of fried catfish right by me as she served the others at the table.
I had only a light lunch. I had been on the road all afternoon.
This spring has been challenging, but at the same time abundant. Although the gardens are slower than normal, the fruit and nut trees are hanging full. And when the sunshine breaks through the clouds it will be a garden extravaganza!

Lichens are composite organisms made up of a fungus and usually a green alga, or sometimes a cyanobacterium. Many different species of fungi and different species of algae may combine into a number of different shapes and colors of lichens. They can be found in rainforests, on the arctic tundra, and in deserts.

I received a phone message yesterday that asked, “When are my onions ripe and when and how do I harvest and store them?” Let’s look at onions, garlic, potatoes, and winter squash for harvesting and “curing”.
Onions can take their time to grow, especially with the up and down weather we have experienced this spring.
Last month, I was watching a herd of deer gathered around a feeding station where feed had apparently just been dispersed (a practice I don’t recommend). Then all of a sudden, the entire herd bounded off in one direction, tail flags up, clearly having been spooked by something. Then a few seconds later I saw a lone coyote trotting up from the opposite direction.
