Lutheran Breakfast Quiche
One thing that was always a constant at Lutheran Brunches was the Lutheran Breakfast quiche. Whether it was the Easter morning service or the Graduation service it was always served with blue berry muffins, fruit salad and usually some sausage balls. The quiche was usually one of the favorites, of everyone.
Baguettes, the P.B. Way
The Practical Baker really enjoys experimenting in the kitchen. From taking tried and true recipes and altering them in different ways, to sometimes striking out and attempting to build something from scratch, I get a lot of pleasure in seeing how many different ways I can make a baked good!

Filling in the Gap
I was sitting at my desk pen in hand, writing pad in front of me, when old friend Tex Luther walked in. "Oh, excuse me," he said. "Am I interrupting some great literary project?" "Yes, you are," I said with a smile. "And may I ask what it is?" "I'm filling in the gap." "What gap?" "The gap on my tombstone." "There's a gap on your tombstone?" "Well, there isn't yet.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers out there. I miss my mom so very much but am content that she is in a much better place. I enjoy celebrating with children, grandchildren, and a great grandchild. This was an eventful week. I woke up Tuesday morning with vision problems. I called my retina specialist that treats my macular degeneration whose office advised me to see Dr.
A common phrase today is ‘not all heroes wear capes.’ You see it used with stories about regular people doing brave or noteworthy things, but it’s mostly meant as a joke. For instance, I saw it used with a story about Ander Christensen, a Nebraska fellow who petitioned his local city council to advocate that people stop calling chicken wings ‘boneless.’ And to be fair, the guy was right.
How Everyone Can Contribute Important Information to Biodiversity Science
In past columns, I’ve discussed the many species of animals that have become locally uncommon or extinct within the lifetimes of living Mason County residents. Declines of favorite local species like Bobwhite Quail, Texas Horned Lizards, Collared Lizards, Ornate Box Turtles, and many species of frogs and toads are obvious to anyone who has lived in the area for many decades.
Demonstration of the Properties of Native Grasses
I have mentioned several times in this column over the past months that native grasses are the best thing to have on the ground to capture and hold rainwater. I think it might be useful to elaborate on that a little. The root structure of native bunch grasses looks a lot like the leaf structure above ground, with many roots growing from the area just below the surface and growing down and outward from there.

Best Ever Gingersnaps
As the name implies, these are the best gingersnap cookies I’ve ever eaten. I do believe that you will agree with me once you make up your first batch! Ingredients: 2 cups all purpose flour ½ teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1 teaspoon ground ginger ½ teaspoon ground cloves 1 cup sugar, plus extra for coating 12 tablespoons cold, unsalted butter, grated (some folks freeze the butter, but I don’t) ¼ cup molasses 1 egg, slightly beaten ...
