Truth, or something like it The Chicken Littles are once again running around, squawking, and grabbing all the buckets they can find to catch the falling sky. This happens every so often, anytime some knothead posts something to social media that says this or that is ruining the planet, and we’re all going to die horrible deaths.
A Dream Comes of Age… Just two decades ago, visionary Galveston leaders risked public monies, made promises they hoped they could keep, and readily shared their vision with cruise lines. They fully believed that cruising was ready to “take off.” Galvestonians--proud of their historic island city--were “in” for the long haul, and Carnival officials wanted to be.
I hope you were blessed on Friday with rain. My gauge showed 3.75 inches. We were so happy to see the ground soak up the rain. Labor Day is September 2. We don’t do much on this holiday since we are retired, but it is nice to have a chill day. There will be a covered dish lunch on September 8 following the morning worship to celebrate Grandparent’s Day. Mark your calendars on September 22.
Back in the saddle again. It’s back-to-school time. You know what that means. So long, August. Can’t say we’re sorry to see you go. Although it’s been memorable. Hotter than a $2 pistol is what it’s been. 1925 holds the record. And they can have it. Bring on Autumn. Let the leaves begin. Begin to turn and fall. And cool down these 100-degree days. Ah, Nature. What an equalizer. We’re all hot. Every single dang one of us. Weather plays no favorites ...

Chianti Pine Nut Bread origin unknown This recipe produces a very interesting, rich bread. And for any of you concerned about the wine ingredient, be aware that ALL the alcohol will evaporate during the baking process, so all you’ll taste is the flavor of the Chianti. Ingredients: 3 ½ cups bread flour 2 teaspoons yeast 2 tablespoons sugar 1 ½ teaspoons salt 1 cup chianti 1 large egg ¼ cup softened butter 1 cup pine nuts Process: Mix together, on the counter top, ...

Red Flags When George Orwell’s novel, ‘Nineteen Eighty-Four,’ was published in 1949, it’s unlikely anyone thought it would actually come true, but a lot of it has. The same is true of Ayn Rand’s ‘Atlas Shrugged,’ which came out in 1957. Both dystopian novels describe government overreach, mostly through liberalism, socialism, and political correctness, which culminate in the collapse of capitalism and the downfall of society in general.
