Climate Change
I have kept silent as long as I can.
If you listen to the rhetoric coming from the so-called climate change crowd, we are all going to be dead in 12 years, so why should we look to 2050 for their policies to save all of mankind, according to them we only have until 2038?
U.T. Coach and 20-20 Memory…
Coaches who take their teams on the road to face storied football opponents usually tip-toe into town, feeling that the less said, the better. This is particularly true when they’re fortunate enough to win, and doubly so if they’re scheduled to meet the same foes the next year at “their place.”
A prime example of what NOT to do occurred a few weeks back in Austin, where Louisiana State University bested the University of Texas, 45-38.
The Climate Cult
Quite frankly I’m getting tired of being lectured. I can’t turn on a news program on television or the radio, I can’t go to a news site or social media site on a computer, I can’t drive down the road and read the billboards, without being bombarded with lectures about what a horrible person I am, and how I’m destroying the planet, melting the icebergs, wiping out the rainforests, polluting the air and water, and leaving the toilet seat up.
Old Yeller Day has come and gone, and what fun we had! Roper Kevin Fitzpatrick and Pistol Packin’ Paula Saletnik put on great shows getting the audience involved. The dog judges did a wonderful job, and we had some terrific vendors. It’s also so good to re-visit films from our childhood like Old Yeller, and we had a sizeable crowd.
This handsome home on Avenue F here in the town of Mason suggests a castle from a foreign land. The home was built in 1904 by Otto Mebus, the brother of Anna Martin. Anna Martin was a pioneer hero in the early days of Mason. Otto used a set of Victorian house plans and went about creating his dream home.
County Road
Nov 1996, my husband and I bought a beautiful piece of property at the end of Masollan Road from Raymond & Ruth Parker. We became every-other-weekend residents. Seven months after we bought the property, in June 1997, the Llano River flooded our cabin, well house, and sheds. It washed away everything between the cabin and the river: trees, fencing – even the corner posts, irrigation system, and tons of soil.
Sometimes, Just a Few Days Matter....
It would be the epitome of understatement to say that the last week has been emotional and difficult. As one close friend who has also lost both parents told me, "No matter how old you are, it sucks to be an orphan!"
But, this column is not about Daddy or the tough week I had.
O Beautiful.
O Morning Star.
O bacon frying in the pan.
And toast and butter.
And scrambled eggs.
Or bowls of milk and cereal.
Fruit and yogurt.
Granola bar.
Wake up, sleepyheads.
Yawn and stretch.
Working men with trucks and trailers.
Tools and equipment.
Livestock.
Linemen.
On the move.
Early risers.
Working women getting ready.
Feed the kids.
Throw clothes in dryer.
Load up the baby.
Hurryhurryhurry.
Nacho’s.
Rico’s.
The OPEN sign beckoning ...
This is the week. Fall arrives September 23. The big question is: Will it get cooler? Of course, we will be complaining soon that it is too cold. But, many of us are ready for cooler weather.
The German Hymnfest is this Sunday, September 22, at 3 at the Hilda United Methodist Church.
Mort at 107—Fit and ‘Fitting in’…
As might be expected, my Uncle Mort thought he had heard every birthday-related joke in the book. At his 107th party a few weeks ago, he got a real birthday surprise.
They rolled out three large gifts. When he tore away the wrapping on the first one, there was a birthday cake adorned by 36 candles.
