Mirror, Mirror on the Wall...
"The Story Of Your Life Is Written On Your Face." That old Tom T. Hall song came to mind while standing in front of the bathroom mirror in our ranch house - a looking glass I have been looking into for almost 80 years. Oh, there have been other mirrors in my life.
English Muffin Loaves courtesy: AllRecipes
I’ve published an English Muffin Bread recipe before, but this one is simple, easy, and no kneading is required. You also wind up with 2 loaves to slice and toast to your heart’s content! I personally prefer this bread to the original. Ingredients: 2 packages of dry yeast (4 ½ teaspoons) 6 cups of all-purpose flour 1 tablespoon sugar ¼ teaspoon baking soda ½ cup water 1 teaspoon salt 2 tablespoons cornmeal Process: In a small sauce pan, heat the milk and water until ...
Whistling a Happy Tune…
Many lessons awaited a baby born in 1935 on a dry land farm in West Texas’ Tom Green County. Jimmie Royce Keeling calls all of them “blessings.” That’s how he has sized up life so far, and it’s hard to dispute him. He’s shown dogged determination to give a heap more back than he’s taken away.
We had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Although not everyone came to our dinner, we visited with them on the phone. I tried to start up and old tradition where we did something together after the big meal. This year I spent too much time on Pinterest and we made Christmas ornaments using wooden shims from the building supply store.
Roy ‘Bubba’ and Barbara Pfeil, sons Reece and Royce, 9 and 12, and two surviving grown daughters Lori and Machelle would like to report that two weeks after surgery Bubba received his diagnosis of glioblastoma, the deadliest and most aggressive form of brain cancer. Bubba remains optimistic and filled with his love of Jesus. The fundraising benefit hosted on November 14 2020, went impressively well, with all items sold out by 11:45.
So Many People Over the Years... A Real Job Benefit!
I finally can begin the countdown. One month remains before I leave and I'm getting a bit more sentimental with each passing day. One of the things that I've enjoyed about this position over 22 years is the smorgasbord of folks I've been honored to work with in the various roles I've had with them over the years.
Thanksgiving Day will be the 267th day of my self-isolation to protect myself from the Corona virus. (Mar. 5th - I started as soon as I realized that this virus is both airborne and deadly to some of us.) I miss my children and my grandchildren and my friends, but I can still breathe.
Last week, we proudly announced that McKenzie Cano had signed with University of Mary Hardin Baylor to play basketball. Unfortunately, I had a temporary brain.... pause, and misspelled her name. My apologies and congratulations once more. Pictured, left to right: Elizabeth, McKenzie, Madison and Denis Cano.
Hope for a COVID-19 vaccine is becoming a reality and plans for distribution are progressing. Clinical trials on two vaccines have demonstrated over 90% effectiveness in prevention of COVID-19 infections. An effectiveness of 90% means at least 9 out of 10 people who receive a vaccine will likely not contract COVID-19.
During the 36 years lived in San Marcos, we were subscribers to the Austin American-Statesman. For 20 of those years, I looked forward to the weekly columns of Browning Ware, Pastor of Austin's First Baptist Church. After his death, a collection of those writings was published in a book, Diary of a Modern Pilgrim.
