Editor: With the previous naysayers concerning the Election printed in this paper, my belief is: God prevented Joe Biden from his previous bids for Presidency, God saw the fractured time of this country...and...”Now is your time, Joe. Your job won’t be easy, but with the Grace of ALL My Believers; this Country will Heal.
In a Blind, I See
I stealthily slipped up to the hunting blind, trying carefully not to disturb any whitetail deer that might be in the vicinity. Just as I went to open the door caught a movement out of the corner of my eye. Glancing up, I saw a goat looking at me from a nearby live oak thicket.
Rustic Bread courtesy: Adam Leonti
This simple yet delicious loaf is from Mr. Leonti’s Brooklyn Bread Lab, and relies upon an overnight rest and fresh yeast to ensure the development of the sour, tangy flavor and chewy texture of sourdough bread without having to mess with “starter.” It’s a great bread, but you do have to plan ahead at least one day! Ingredients: 4 cups of bread flour 2 ½ teaspoons kosher salt 1 ¼ teaspoons yeast 2 cups room temperature water All-Purpose flour (for dusting) Process: U ...
State of the Year We’re In…
Lots of people have cast negative ballots, said tacky things and made disparaging gestures about the year 2020 in general. The unanimous verdict indicated that, as one West Texan put it, “Ain’t what we signed up for.” A pessimist claims that if he attempted to cross an intersection-- even if he looked every direction two or three times--his 2020 record of the “crossing” would be less than memorable.
Chicken & Eggplant Parm Bake
Eggplant Parmesan is one of mine and my sister’s favorite dishes. My sister (Judy) shared this recipe with me, and it happens be to what we order nearly every time we have a chance to go an Italian Food Restaurant. Pasta Bella’s Eggplant Parm is one of the best, with a little glass of Vino, makes it even better!
The year 2020 rolls on. Hunting season started last weekend. Today is Veteran’s Day. Thanksgiving is in two weeks. We do need rain. Art United Methodist Church will work the food bank on November 9 and November 23. Call Tyra Jordan if you can volunteer. Sign up to bring sides for distribution with Thanksgiving turkeys.
Roy ‘Bubba’ Pfeil, hardworking and loving Christian father of two young sons at home and three grown daughters all raised in Mason, is a longtime Mason resident. Bubba works as a roofer, a demanding occupation. Bubba had brain surgery to remove a tumor Friday a week ago. He will be unable to work for at least three months, possibly longer.
"It's morning again in America...."
(This is a repeat of the column I wrote four years ago, with minor content changes, regarding the 2016 Presidential election. I regret that it has weathered the intervening time so well that only minor changes were necessary.) As I write this column, the polls have been open on the east coast for over two hours, and more than an hour here in the central United States.
St. Murphy's Commandments for Pastors
Here are some "St. Murphy's Commandments," laws in the church that are akin to the classic Murphy's Law, "If anything can go wrong, it will." The following come out of my research into the subject. They pertain to pastors and the relationship they have with their congregations. The Seminary Curriculum Commandment: The one thing they didn't teach in seminary is the first thing a pastor will need to know on the job. The Rule of Emerging Emergencies: Emergencies arise in direct proportion to ...
Bread Machine Dinner Rolls courtesy: Gold Medal Flour
I understand that not all of you have a bread machine, but this is a recipe that you can use even if you have to mix up the dough the old fashioned way. The resulting rolls are wonderfully light on the inside and slightly crunchy on the outside. Ingredients: 1 cup water 2 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened 1 egg 3 ¼ cups Gold Medal “Better for Bread” flour (other brands of bread flour will work!) ¼ cup sugar 1 teaspoon salt 3 teaspoons bread machine or active dry ...
