Flags everywhere across this great nation flew at half mast after the recent passing of justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg, a liberal icon on the Supreme Court for decades. She was venerated by many on the left & held in high regard by some who opposed her views. Her body lay in state in the Capitol Rotunda & was viewed by thousands.
This week I’d like to highlight those from the past and present who contributed to my Katemcy/Camp Air community: BERT AND EFFIE HAINES, who never turned anyone away from their door. They fed, clothed, housed, and even found job for people in need. BABE AND GLADYS NOBLES, who raised a family on a sandy land farm of peanuts, watermelons, and cantaloupe.
"Happy Mirthday, Ron." "Thanks, Tex. Nice of you to remember." "You're welcome. However, even though 1 know you were born on October 24th, 1 must admit your exact age slips my mind." "Well, I'm not going to tell you how old 1 am. Except to say 1 don't have to buy an antique to sit down on something that's 85 years old." Thus began Ron Birk and Tex Luther's semi-annual "Mirth day Party." When we two old friends reached 80 it was mutually agreed to put some crinkles in our wrinkles by ...
Airing Dirty Laundry…
The words “wash and wear” exploded in the 1950s, thanks to the introduction of treated cotton and synthetics that meant clothing could be worn straight from the washing machine. Ironing board sales plummeted, and housewives singing “Wash Day Blues” gave way to “Happy Days are Here Again.” Never in our dreams--up to and including wildest--did it occur that “wash and wear” would be used around the world today, or near thereto. We hear it endlessly: “Wash your hands.
The fall weather has been great. We just need to get some rain. Pastor Tim Fahrenthal announced that for the next three Wednesdays, we will be praying and fasting for our nation. We will meet at the sanctuary at noon each Wednesday for prayer. The Adult Sunday School Class will begin meeting again starting next Sunday at 10. There will be an outside church workday on October 24 from 9 to noon. Class meetings continue on Wednesday evenings with soup served at 6 and the meeting follows ...
You Can't Take It With You... Share While You Can!
One of the repeated lessons we were given as children was that material possessions should never become so important to us that we forget the people around us. Part of those lessons was the repeating of the adage, "You can't take it with you." As a child, I only understood that on a physical basis -- of course you can't take your possessions with you after you die, they don't travel well.
What are you voting for??? I have friends who are reasonable, rational, Republicans. That's all right, but the Republican party has been hijacked by socialist/communist wing of the Party. Former leaders seem to have accepted what they previously opposed. I don't know what I believe on abortion, but I believe it's a woman's choice.
If my misfortune would have been shared by you, you too would loath Socialism with the same passion the world loathes COVID-19. When I was born, the nurse told my mother: “You are lucky Dorchen, you gave birth to a perfect child. Had there been any problem with your child you would never have seen your little girl.
Editor, Regardless of one’s political affiliation, if you find yourselves angrily and viciously fighting to control the direction and destiny of this country, and feeling like you’re battling an indescribable and unmanageable force, and using the Ivory soapbox from which to fire your verbal missiles (either to accuse or to gloat), then you shouldn’t be doing it. There’s a bigger spiritual battle against self-righteousness and control, both of which always cause one to get spoiled.
This week let me mention some other good people in Mason Texas: DAVE AND ANDY ROSBERG, two of the most caring and knowledgeable veterinarians I know. They both have that personal touch. RANDY BECKMAN, who is so caring and concerned for the families in this community. At our Mason Clinic, there’s BRENDA BLACK, so good at drawing blood that I very seldom even feel the “stick” MONTY AND ROSIE HORNE, very thorough and caring.
