This is a thank you note to everyone who helped me during my breast cancer treatment. The four paint panels were a practice for what we thought was the main painting. It turned out that this piece received more notice, due to its stronger color scheme and emotional statements. Bridget likes to repurpose objects for her projects-hence the drawer, which is a perfect frame for this project.
In September of 2019, Bridget approached me about doing something to enter a show in Kerrville. We worked for more than a week to create two pieces, allowing the process to flow and develop without force. The goal was to create a piece that expressed my journey without being overly pink.
We began with a previously used canvas, which connotes life before cancer.
Jim Wacker, who you will remember from last week's column, was a coach in the best sense of that word; a teacher and instructor not only on the football field, but also in the field of life
When former players of his from Texas Lutheran, North Dakota State, Southwest Texas, Texas Christian and Minnesota gathered at Jim's funeral, they naturally talked about football and the influence he had on their long-ago athletic careers.
Mike Wilson, editor of the Dallas Morning News since 2015, has resigned the position, and the almost six-year tenure probably has seemed much longer.
He was charged with what likely is an inevitability, that of converting most delivery of news from “the printed page” to digital transmission. Somehow, he has maintained excellence in both.
It is the middle of October. I am wondering if we will make it past election day. There is very little to watch on TV. If you flip channels, you will find experts giving opinions that are on opposite ends of the spectrum. I majored in journalism in college. The professor of my journalism ethics class is probably bouncing in his grave.
On Saturday, a motorist in eastern Llano County rammed a trooper's vehicle. Then, they began running. They led a high speed pursuit that came through Llano, west on Highway 29, then into Mason and out toward Hext. Spikes were put out at several locations; but, the vehicle continued to evade law enforcement before finally turning down toward London and ending the chase.
As is often the case in life, the incident that began this chase neither began nor ended here in Mason.
I have friends who are reasonable, rational Democrats. That’s all right, but the Democrat party has been hijacked by the socialist/communist wing of the party. Former leaders seem to have accepted what they previously opposed.
They now support abortion on demand, open borders, sanctuary cities, “Green New Deal”, reduced military, defunding the police, confiscation of firearms, elimination of private health insurance, free college, elimination of student debts, and free health care for ...
The other day I was driving down highway 87 between Harper road and town and a strange cat went loping across the road. It was too big for a house cat, it wasn’t a bobcat, mountain lion nor panther. I had never seen a cat built like this and with this coloring.
So upon research on the Web I determined that without a doubt the cat I saw was a Jaguarundi.
The title A Breath of Fresh Air partly suggests that Fall 2020 has arrived. However, its real purpose is to honor a special lady on a special occasion. She is Lorine Metz and she will soon “Celebrate a Century”. She has always looked at life with a genuine sweet and compassionate spirit that is truly uplifting.
(If you watch Texas State football, you will notice in big letters on the playing turf, "Jim Wacker Field." These are some thoughts about the man behind the name, written at the time of his death.)
Jim Wacker is dead. UNBELEEEEVABLE!!
That trademark exclamation of Jim's describes the feelings of we who knew him.
