How To Spot Good Character
During the next couple of weeks, we're all going to be spending lots of time with immediate family, extended family and a wide mix of friends and neighbors. In many cases, these Christmas and New Year gatherings are the only times we'll be around them, and we won't see them again until next year.
Many of our impressions of people, even family members, are based upon isolated incidents and encounters during these gatherings.
Blue Ribbon
Although this note of thanks comes well over a month late, special words are in order for the fine Mason High School students who did an incredible amount of work around town all day on Blue Ribbon Community Service Day, Wednesday, November 6.
On behalf of the Mason Ministerial Alliance, heartfelt thanks are expressed to the 5 students and teacher supervisor who did so much great work at the Mason Food Pantry facility!
On behalf of St.
I am ready for Christmas. I decorated outside. I have not brought the tree down from the attic. But, it will get done and I will be ready. At this point in my life, I only want to know when you will come to my house so we can celebrate Christmas.
Myrtle Geistweidt’s Cinnamon Rolls
Mom was well known for her homemade cinnamon rolls and homemade bread. I remember pretty much every Friday when I would get off the school bus and walk home that wonderful aroma was wafting through the house. One or the other graced every Lutheran covered dish luncheon I can remember.
Santa on the Run…
The youngster, maybe 6-7 years of age, is on one of those “select” league baseball teams that may play four games or more on a single weekend during most months of the year.
Sometimes, they fly commercially to tournaments, but so far, I haven’t heard of any teams chartering planes.
Thank you, Mason Study Club, for hosting a lovely retirement party for Assistant Librarian Nancy Scholibo! Many, many people stopped in to wish her well, and she had a wonderful sendoff! She has been invaluable during her time here, and we will miss her. But all things eventually change, and I’m delighted to announce our two new staffers, Assistant Librarian Cristi Slocum and Library Clerk Sheri Wheeler!

Ingredients:
½ cup hog crackings or pork skins, crushed
2 tablespoons melted butter
½ cup minced green onions
1 ½ cups corn meal
½ cup flour

A Slip of the Tongue
When Pastor Forrest Kreinautlaud came to St. Martin's Lutheran Church in the mid-1980's, he soon discovered that the little Texas country church with its membership of predominately German-American farmers and ranchers was a bit behind its neighboring congregations in the practice of contemporary worship customs.
For example: other Lutheran congregations were involving more and more lay people in the worship.
It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas...
I suppose the cold weather we're having right now helps to get into a Christmas frame of mind. So does lighting the advent candle at church on Sunday. The random Christmas carols that pop up on the radio and in my Pandora playlist help a bit.
Football Memories
This is the time of year when the thoughts of an old "jock" turn to football.
With the season kickoffs upon us the memories of my days on the gridiron return.
I played for a small high school and then for a college not much bigger. Even though both of those teams have had their moments of football glory, my playing days were not among them.
In fact, I never played on a team with a winning record during my whole career.
I'm not going to say our high school team was ...
