Study Finds Low Civic Engagement Impacts Civic Health
According to the 2018 Texas Civic Health Index, in the 2016 election, Texas ranked 47th in voter turnout among states and the District of Columbia and 44th in voter registration, with only 68 percent of all eligible citizens being registered to vote. The report notes that this is a slight improvement from the 2013 Texas Civic Health Index, where Texas was ranked last (51st) in voter turnout during a midterm election year. Former Blanco mayor Chuck Homan passed away over the weekend after a long illness. Horman was elected mayor May 8, 2010, was sworn into office May 25, 2010, and he served five years as mayor. From an excerpt of his responses to questions posed by the Blanco County News, published April 28, 2010, Homan noted that he wanted to be accessible to people.
Find Home at New Science Center at Bamberger Ranch Preserve
When staff at the Selah, Bamberger Ranch Preserve came to the Blanco State Park to help remove debris following the Memorial Day flood of 2015, they saw big pecan logs in piles destined for the city landfill. Colleen Gardner, executive director of the Ranch, located at 2341 Blue Ridge Dr., Johnson City, ranch manager Steven Fulton and ranch biologist Jared Holmes were among the volunteers.

For Poaching Incident Information
Although the Texas Game Wardens have not yet identified a suspect in a poaching incident that occurred the second week of January near Cypress Mill Road in northeast Blanco County, some information has been reported to Operation Game Thief, the Texas wildlife crime-stoppers program. At the close of business Friday, Feb. 16, 2018, list of candidates filing for City Commission and School Board positions closed. Blanco City Commission Four candidates for the Commission filed: resident Susan Moore, along with commissioners seeking re-election Martha Gosnell, Martin Sauceda and Tony Vela. The three candidates receiving the most votes will be elected to the council for two-year terms.
The Lady Panthers defeated the Jourdanton Squaws 58-52 in the bi-district round of playoffs on Monday, Feb. 12, 2018 at New Braunfels High School. The Texas Society of the Sons of the American Revolution requested that the Blanco County Commissioners approve a proclamation declaring Feb. 22, 2018 as “President George Washington Day,” a non-holiday for the county. News will miss seeing Priscilla Seal’s byline on stories, as she and husband R.K. Seals devote themselves to simplifying life by downsizing and selling their ranch and building a new home in Cielo Springs Seals, who moved to the Blanco area in 2003, was hired in 2004. “Scott Wesner, editor at the time, hired me in 2004,” Seals said.
