Since the 2017-18 flu season officially started October 1, more than 3,000 Texans have tested positive for influenza, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services. This is considered a high rate and is expected to increase closer to peak flu season.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), an estimated 23,607 (range 3,349-48,614) influenza-associated deaths and over 200,000 influenza-associated hospitalizations occur every year in the United States.

A water line break reported in Cielo Springs on New Year’s Eve sent the City of Blanco public works crew out to work in below-freezing temperatures, as low as 23 degrees recorded in the early morning on Jan. 1, 2018.
“There’s an area where the main line is close to the surface, and with the ground contracting due to the deep freeze it apparently broke the line,” Ronnie Rodriguz, Blanco assistant director of public works said.

Santa arrived in Blanco accompanied not by the pitter patter of reindeer hooves, but by the thunderous roar of more than 40 motorcycles from the Sovereign Sons MC on their annual Toy Run benefitting less fortunate children in Blanco County.
A national Motorcycle Club founded and based in Blanco in 2009, the Sovereign Sons MC Blanco County Chapter worked with Blanco and Johnson City Elementary School counselors to select those children who could benefit the most.
Neighboring Kendalia is home to a nationally recognized animal rescue, rehabilitation hospital and facilities, and animal sanctuary that took in 10,000 animals this year.
