Mason, What a wonderful county to live in!
My son Bill Elton and I, Johnnie Rossing, had moved to Mason in the late 1990's and never have regretted it. The last snowfall has reassured us we picked the right town to live in.
Both my son and I want to really thank all the people in this
county for their loving thoughtfulness during our bad storm.
Yes, we like all of us in town were without electricity which
caused a big problem for us as we are both on oxygen.
After a week of horrible weather, we are so glad to see the beautiful sunshine. Snow is pretty. Snow is fun to look at from a warm house. The cold was not fun. We were lucky that we had some firewood to burn in the fireplace in our all electric house.
This latest cold front taught us many important survival needs including to "pay attention." I do take notice of the weather, and on this occasion, it really caught me rushing about to prepare.
I had my faucets and pipes outside wrapped, but lost a really old one. The hoop greenhouse made it, with one small oil heater and 2 small grow lights.
What a week! I am getting rather good at feeding cows, chopping ice, and wrapping pipes. I’ve traded in my spatula, saucepan and apron for pipe wrenches, an axe and gorilla tape. So, I have been trying to find new ways to get warm.
I’m usually a coffee drinker but I thought I would bring out some oldies but goodies.
"Sunset Carson, 63, a 1940s cowboy movie hero, died Tuesday of a heart attack in Reno, Nevada"
That notice, tucked away in the "World Deaths" section of the newspaper, opened the curtains of memory in my mind. Out on the stage of nostalgia rode all the movie heroes of my childhood — Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, Rex Allen, Johnny Mack Brown, Allen "Rocky"

While the extreme cold snap has lingered on for far longer than a couple of days; the strain of excessively cold temperatures for central Texas has caused its fair share of problems. Power shortages and outages in addition to roadway closures due to the icy conditions, are part and parcel of weather that most of us have little experience with.
According to the Climate Narrative for Mason County, Texas recorded for the period 1971 to 2000; the coldest temperature on record was 3 degrees on F ...
We have snow again. This is historic in our part of Texas. Our household remembers the big snowstorm of 1985. Well, we think it was 1985. It may have been 1986. John and I went to the boat and RV show in San Antonio. The kids were with my brother and wife, Fred and Edmona, at their home in San Antonio.
In honor of Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday, I thought I would do a Cajun recipe. Everyone knows there are some traditions that go along with Mardi Gras. It is all about music, parades, picnics, floats, and excitement. It's one big holiday in New Orleans! Mardi Gras refers to events of the Carnival celebration, beginning on or after the Christian feasts of the Epiphany and culminating on the day before Lent starts.
The clever and ever-so-simple message Julie Andrews conveyed in Mary Poppins--a classic if there ever was one--provided encouragement that thrilled a nation.
We often chose to believe the obvious--that “just a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down”--but it would have taken sugar fields much bigger than the “old cotton fields back home” to sweeten Super Bowl LV.
