Mort’s Birthday Miseries…
Radio listeners heard it from the lips of England’s Prime Minister--the inimitable Winston Churchill. In the 1939 radio broadcast, he said Russia “is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma.”
Fast forward 80 years to Uncle Mort’s 107th birthday party on July 4. This old Churchillian quote fits my kin quite well, but perhaps deserves one additional phrase, like “scattered in gun powder packed in a blunderbuss.”
Anyway, there’s mounting ...
I hope you have all of your plans set for the coming Round-up weekend. There are many activities and lots of ways to participate, but if you do not plan in advance I suspect you will miss some of the fun and excitement. Friday will be a preview with some great entertainment, and Saturday starting with the parade and then the car show and booths on the Courthouse Square, as well as Queen’s Court and Rodeo will leave most of us tired but proud to call Mason “home”.
Roundup Weekend is here. Everyone has many memories of past celebrations. Currently, my struggle is that the parade is very hot. I like to see the vendors at 9 before the parade so I can miss some of the hot weather. Then, it is home to our air conditioned haven.
Rollin’ rollin’ rollin.’
Keep them dogies rollin.’
No time to understand ‘em.
Just try to rope and brand ‘em.
Move ‘em out.
Bring ‘em in.
Round ‘em up.
And speaking of round up.
Round-Up Weekend is comin’ up.
Yessir.
July 12th and 13th.
It’s the 55th Annual Round-Up.
But then, who’s counting.
One thing’s for sure.
If you’ve seen one, you have NOT seen ‘em all.
They vary year to year.
As do the folks who participate.
The rodeo.

Finding A Fair Path Together...
In 1949, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), at the urging of Congress, enacted The Fairness Doctrine. The reasoning was that, because of the scarcity of available radio spectrum (later to include broadcast television), owners of those licenses had an obligation to to provide fair and balanced coverage of topics they covered in their news and entertainment presentations.
Making Decisions
Editor:
After attending the recent City Commission meeting when the discussion dealt with the future handling of the municipal solid waste, and reading the recent letters to the editor on the same subject, it is clear that a number of people have strong views on whether to develop a new landfill site or to develop a transfer station and ship it elsewhere.
Planning
Time to Get It Done
The City of Mason has been successfully operating its own landfill for decades and can continue to do so without raising rates or fees to pay for the new landfill.
The objections to building the new landfill don’t measure up. I’ve been told more than once recycling will reduce the need for a local landfill.

Thank you for this forum to express our opinion. I trust “hope” our city “commissioners” on the council read the MCN.
Thank you to the two statementsmade in MCN June 26. I whole heartedly agree with D. Armstrong, and J. D. Kidwell. The best way to maintain control of any program is to control as many aspects as possible.
I have been disappointed in Ms.
