At its regular meeting on November 8, the governing body of Blanco heard from Mayor Herden that the auditors are beginning an audit of the finances of Blanco for the 2016-17 fiscal year. “We are jumping ahead,” said the mayor, adding that the audit may be done 180 days into the fiscal year.
After months of consideration, the City Council voted to award the Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) fund distribution to the Blanco Chamber of Commerce, Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017. Bojorquez Law Firm staff member Elizabeth Elleson reviewed the contract, assuring council that it follows state law and creates a fiduciary responsibility to the city by the chamber.
The road to opening a destination wildlife museum has been full of twists and turns for owner Jerry Ayer, who could be considered a taxidermist to the stars.
He currently operates a traveling museum, loading up a variety of his collection of animals, fish and reptiles to present at schools throughout Texas.
HNB to Open Blanco Branch
A new financial institution will open Dec. 4, 2017, at 401 Main St., site of the former PEC service office.
HNB, headquartered in Hondo and with locations in Bandera, Uvalde and Leakey, will be a loan production office for now, according to Stormy Pruitt, regional president.
“We stress hometown customer service with modern technology,” Pruitt said.
Pedernales Electric Cooperative’s Board of Directors has selected Julie Parsley to lead the nation’s largest and fastest-growing distribution electric cooperative. Parsley is a former partner of Parsley Coffin Renner, a law firm specializing in utility regulations.

Celebrating its 27th year, the Texas Big Game Awards (TBGA), a partnership of Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the Texas Wildlife Association, continues to recognize the contributions landowners, land managers and responsible hunters make to managing and conserving wildlife and habitat on Texas’ private and public lands.

Johnson City Volunteer Fire Department Chief Roy Burdett reported that brush being burned Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017, at the Low Ranch off Stubbs Road was put out but additional burn piles were ignited on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017.

With tremedous flood damage to city infrastructure in 2015, Blanco took a big step forward toward repairs this week, as the city closed on $6.3 million in loans from the Texas Water Development Board.
“Back in 2003, when the 11-mile pipeline to Canyon Lake was approved, that was a piece of Blanco’s future,” Mayor Martha Herden said.

It’s very impressive if you did, since most of us probably don’t know the name of the dinosaur believed to have left giant footprints in numerous locations in our county.
On Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017, the Blanco Panther Marching Band traveled to San Antonio to compete in the Region 12 U.I.L Regional Marching Contest. At 12:45 p.m. at the Heroes Stadium in San Antonio the Panther Band performed their show, Reborn: From Tragedy to Triumph, composed by Luke McMillan of Abilene, which they have diligently practiced since the beginning of August.
Drum majors for the band are Clarissa Derby and Mitchell Barnett, and the drumline captain is Mario Sanchez.
