Ok, so you are wondering why I am writing this column. Well, I’ve kind of got a bit of a reason. No, it’s not to spout political opinions. Even though I have a few, I know not many readers are interested in hearing any from me.
Anyway, many of the older readers of the Mason County News will remember Krazy Kurt’s Kolumn.
FEMA
Andrew Murr, our local State Representative, told Mason citizens that FEMA standards leave small communities like Mason at a disadvantage when attempting to qualify for a “national disaster” status. Mason City Commissioner Sue Pledger attended Rep. Murr’s recent meeting and followed up with a call to his Austin office for further details on FEMA’s criteria for National Disaster.
Lizard Pumpkin Pie

I’m not real sure just why they call this Lizard Pumpkin Pie. I get the “pumpkin” part, but there wasn’t a single call for lizard parts in the ingredients. Regardless, it makes for a good, rich, no-bake pie that will be a hit with your friends and family, I guarantee it.
Ingredients:
¼ cup plus 2 tablespoons caramel ice cream topping, divided
1 nine inch graham cracker crust
½ cup plus 2 tablespoons pecan pieces, divided

A Different Entry Into Winter
What a difference a few weeks can make!
One month ago, pastures in Mason County were bare. There was no grazing available for livestock or for wildlife. Surface water was not to be found. Springs had slowed to a trickle. Landowners were bracing for what was shaping up to be a very tough winter, full of difficult decisions.
And then, it started to rain.
Cold.
Wait for it.
Hot.
And so it goes.
Sweater.
Jacket.
Hat.
Flip the switch.
AC.
T-shirt.
Cap.
Speaking of T-shirts and caps.
You can get them monogrammed at Beaty’s Embroidery & Signs.
And Mason Monograms & More.
And T-shirts printed too.
They’re right across the street from each other on Hwy 87 north.
Near the Short Stop.
And Nacho’s Café.
Monogrammed towels make a nice gift.
So do monogrammed pillowcases.

Old age is not for the faint of heart! Varicose veins, saggy skin, wrinkles, bulges where flesh was once firm (as memory serves). And that’s just the superficial: most of us have paid for multiple doctors’ world cruises or orthodontics for their entire families! Why the gloom and doom? Because sometimes when I look in the mirror I scare myself!
In my last story, I told about going to my first of many camp meetings at Lower Willow Creek. The whole family really enjoyed our brief vacation among our friends and extended family. We also made some new friends. We were anxious to go to another camp meeting to see them and bring one another up to date.
During the winter, Mamma & Pappa started talking about going even though it involved a lot of preparation, especially for the women folks.

Jam Filled Thumbprint Cookies
courtesy: loveandoliveoil.com
This is the first of a large group of “thumbprint” cookies that I stumbled across on the ‘net. They sounded good, and appeared to have almost limitless possibilities for the filling. They don’t have any unique or hard-to-find ingredients in them, and have been loved by everyone who’s put a tooth to them.
This fall weather is wonderful. The rain and cooler weather puts me in the mood for Thanksgiving. However, we have to endure all the television shows about Halloween first.
This is a busy month at the Art United Methodist Church. The boxes for the Mexico Christmas are at the back of church.
