This time of year, is a time for us to remember of things past and look to the promise of the future. When I was kid, I would start celebrating Christmas in August after school started. Then roll Thanksgiving to New Year’s Day all together. Later in life it seemed to get busy and all the celebrations seemed to come and go before you knew it.

I drove through Fredericksburg about a month or so ago.
As I cruised down Main Street,I was shocked to see they already had two large Merry Christmas signs hanging from one side of the street to the other. And I thought “They just can’t wait for Christmas, can they?” And although the Old Testament Jews didn’t realize it, they couldn’t wait for Christmas either!
So we’ve been renovating, and our dining table has suffered as a result. It has become a catch-all for all manner of stuff. We have found it remarkably challenging to gather around the table for a pleasant meal! Add to the chaos of construction the increasing pace of chasing four kids around the county, and we are finding it even more difficult to maintain the sacredness of a meal together.
But I am convinced- the power of a simple shared meal is worth fighting for.
Have you ever found yourself thrown off course? What about plans canceled or postponed? I’m confident you know the feeling as we find ourselves in a global time of uncertainty. Perhaps you don’t understand why. Why you feel alone. Why you think God isn’t listening. Why you’re finding yourself scared or confused.

The youth of St Joseph’s Catholic Church spent this past Sunday afternoon sprucing up Crosby Cemetery.
The “work crew” along with their leaders spent this past Sunday afternoon sprucing up Crosby Cemetery as part of their service project. Following in the rich tradition of the Catholic Church in celebration of upcoming All Souls Day on November 2, 2020, the teens will be hosting a prayer service at Crosby cemetery on Sunday November 1, 2020 at 6 pm.
St. Paul Lutheran Church is hosting its annual picnic and Jam Service in the Park on Sunday, October 11, from 10:00 – 12:00.
Pastor Fred Krebs will conduct the service, with Justin and Heather McFarland leading the music. Bring your picnic lunch, something to drink and a lawn chair or a blanket to spread out on the grass.
